Tye Trujillo Debuts His Band

Let’s face it, 12-year-old Tye Trujillo is the real star of this Korn tour and good for him! The son of Metallica bassist (Robert Trujillo) made his live debut after Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu literally dropped the bass and was unable to join Korn on their South American tour. Footage of the young Trujillo quickly went viral, and he handles the bass and the spotlight like a pro. Trujillo is on his way to build an impressive resume and is sure to surpass his old man. Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna go and reexamine my pathetic life but while I do that, enjoy this pro footage of Trujillo kicking ass.

Dat Riot Fest Line up Tho!

The lineup to the annual music festival in Chicago is impressive to say the least. Wha? You calling me a liar?! How does Nine Inch Nails, Bad Brains, Queens of the Stone Age, Ministry and GWAR sound like? OH and that’s just the tip of the iceberg by the way, I haven’t even scratched the surface in this mother of a fest! Riot Fest will take place from September 15-17 in Chicago’s Douglas Park and tickets are on sale now through Ticketfly. Undress this poster with your eyes, bb.

Prepare to ‘Die On My Ride’

Tengger Cavalry debuted the lyric video for “Die On My Ride,” a battle song that will certainly resonate in your head. Though frontman Nature Ganganbaigal doesn’t dish out his signature throat singing, he does something different and shows off cleaner but deeper vocals with remnants of his trademark style. Beneath the battle scars this track proudly displays, a pained and subtle hopelessness bleeds through sending the quintet into uncharted territory we can’t wait to see!

“Die On My Ride” will be featured on Tengger Cavalry’s first album, as a signed band, titled Die On My Ride via M-Theory Audio on June 2. The announcement comes a few months after the nomadic warriors joined the burgeoning record label helmed by Marci Barbieri, who was the former president of Century Media and Nuclear Blast USA. Tengger Cavalry will announce dates of their North American raid in the coming weeks and will take over European festivals in the summer. So, grab your axe and pre-order digitally on their bandcamp or physically on M-Theory Audio’s site. Check out my slave intern’s (who’s obsessed with me) “professional” take on this story on Metal Assault.

Internal Bleeding Tragically Lose A Founding Member

One of the founding fathers and drummer of Internal Bleeding, William “Bill” Tolley, has passed away after a fall while on duty as a firefighter. According to CBS New York, Tolley had finished ventilating a burning building and attempted to step back in to the basket when the aerial ladder shook, causing him to plummet five stories. The 42-year-old succumbed to his injuries in Wyckoff Heights Hospital and leaves behind a wife and an 8-year-old daughter.

“Our drummer, the heartbeat of the band, William Tolley died today. There are ZERO WORDS to describe the loss. He was a good, decent and honorable man who loved his friends, his family and the people he served.” The band stated in their Facebook page. “There will never be another like him. There are no words to describe the utter sadness and despair we feel right now. We love you Bill.”

Guitarist Chris Pervelis and Tolley found the band in 1991 and created the death metal subgenre known as “slam” which has more of a distinct and slower breakdown and rhythm than your average death metal. Internal Bleeding is set to hit the road in the summer with Vader and have yet to make a statement regarding any changes. Our deepest condolences to Tolley’s family, friends and Internal Bleeding. Thank you for 26 years of brutality and thank you for your service, Mr.Tolley.

When Bill Tolley wasn’t tearing a new one in your ear holes, he was out in the streets of NYC saving lives.

Internal Bleeding Commemorate Fallen Brother With Music Video

The New York death metallers kept on slammin’ despite the sudden loss of their drummer/founding member William “Bill” Tolley, releasing their music video for “Final Justice.” The video kicks off with the firefighter portrait of Tolley with a heartfelt message from the band and is ended with “Slam On.” Aside from this being a sick and brutal song, this simple music video became more meaningful, and shows the guys doing what they love alongside Tolley. The single is now available for purchase through bandcamp.

Alestorm Raises A Glass To Themselves

After finding their way out of the Gay Dolphin, our favorite inebriated buccaneers have released a fun little ode to themselves with the music video for their latest single “Alestorm.” Getting lost in the Gay Dolphin was the least of their worries and must now fight themselves to gain their rightful place in drunkenness, though I know you must think I must still be celebrating 4/20, watch the video and see what I mean! And if you like what you hear, pre order their May 26 album No Grave But The Sea which will set sail via Napalm Records.

 ‘Seraphic’ Will Reel You In

Ghost Bath lures you into the depths of harmony and despair with their latest music video for “Seraphic.” The video is filled with holy imagery and is embedded with images of the band jamming. Beware! If you’re expecting a relaxing instrumental piece, Dennis Mikula’s anguished screams will come right at you! This track will be featured in their April 21 album Starmourner and will be released through Nuclear Blast. Though individuals with an acquired taste will love this, this is a nice track someone can enjoy if they’re open to it.

Dimmu Borgir Keeps Teasin’

Guitarist Sven Atle Kopperud (whose stage name is Silenoz), stated in an interview with Metal Shock Finland that they are in the middle of mixing the highly anticipated follow up of their 2010’s Abrahadabra AND gave us a glimpse of what’s to come…it sounds glorious.

“It’s more epic and symphonic, it’s more brutal, it’s more black metal, it’s more primitive.” Said Silenoz. “It includes everything we are known for, and what’s even better about it is that it has just come so easy.” My Stan… We will have to wait and see. In the meantime, cure those Dimmu shakes you got going on after reading the statement and get ready for their DVD Forces of the Northern Night which will be out on April 14 via Nuclear Blast. The DVD will feature two live performances with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and their entire Wacken Open Air set in 2012.

We Venture ‘On the Wrong Side of the Wire’

God Dethroned has brought us more death metal with their latest music video for “On the Wrong Side of the Wire” and this song will have you hitting the replay button a couple of times! That riff will have you headbanging like no one’s business. This track will be feature on their May 5 album The World Ablaze which will burst via Metal Blade Records and it’s their first full length album in seven years! If this is how the album is gonna sound, then it’ll be worth the wait.

April 5

Watch out Deathcoreheads, the ‘Revelation’ Is Coming…

And it came and straight from Chicago! Oceano lays it all out on us in all its gritty, thick and growly goodness. “Revelation” will be featured in the quartet’s May 19 album The Great Tribulation which will debut via Sumerian Records. I’m not much of a deathcorehead but I gotta admit, this was a good song to tear shit up and put it on full blast at the end of your long work shift.

April 6

You’ll Catch Us ‘Dancing With The Wrong Girl’

That’s right, no shame and it’s something we’re all guilty, especially if its the Black Star Riders’ song! Now you dance AND view this beauty in their latest music video…sorry the infamous “wrong girl” Ricky Warwick laments over doesn’t have a face, but the sexy neon devil lady might as well be her. DAMN YOU STAN! If you can’t stop dancing to this catchy song, be sure to snag up their latest album Heavy Fire which is out now via Nuclear Blast. Not sure if you wanna, see what the Klown thought about it.

The Lights Have Dimmed Within the Trans Siberian Orchestra

Founder of the famous Trans Siberian Orchestra, Paul O’Neill, passed away at the age of 61 from chronic illness. “He was our friend and our leader—a truly creative spirit and an altruistic soul.” Said the band about their fallen leader on their Facebook page. The band also mentioned in the statement that they would make additional announcements and asked fans to respect the privacy of O’Neill’s family.

O’Neill started out in the Floridian power metal band Savatage in 1983 as a lyricist and guitarist. Ten years later, O’Neill along with his band mates, keyboardist Robert Kinkel and vocalist/pianist Jon Oliva, crafted the rock opera powerhouse we know today. It’s uncertain what the future holds for the Trans Siberian Orchestra but whatever the outcome, we’ll look back and indulge in these masterpieces. Thank you for everything, Mr. O’Neill. That giant concert in the sky just got more metal and epic.

The Obsessed Tell A ‘Sacred’ Story

The doom legends are back and continue to celebrate their efforts by releasing something “Sacred,” as in the music video for the track! The hazy video and the fur clad man and woman really fits with the doomy, old school vibe. This enjoyable song will have you cracking open a beer or two. “Sacred” is featured in their first full length album in over 20 years titled Sacred which dropped today via Relapse Records! Interested? Of course you are! And thanks goodness for technology no? It is now available for streaming in their bandcamp.

BUT Metallica has created their version per se by launching “Hit the Stage” where you can vote which local bands will win the spot as openers in their five city “mini” tour. Though California is not included (Boo, you whores!), these pre selected bands will have their opportunity to shine in the blazing stadium stage lights. How ‘Bout Some of Deez Nuts?

The hardcore punkers from down under are back with their latest music video for “Discord.” The Ugh Metal team has had the pleasure of seeing these energetic hooligans perform a few years back and will hit the spot for diehard metalhead. “Discord” will be featured in their April 7 album Binge & Purgatory and will be released via Century Media Records. Feel The ‘Hand of Hell’

Ex-Candlemass bassist/songwriter Leif Edling has been teasing the goods from his latest project The Doomsday Kingdom for some time and has delivered the lyric video for the melodically doomy “Hand of Hell.” The track, along with “A Spoonful of Darkness,” will be featured in the self titled debut album which will be released in April 7 through Nuclear Blast Records. In the meantime, soothe your craving with their 2016 debut EP Never Machine.

March 4

Ghost Converts System of a Down

Okay, the real Ghost did not in fact cover System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” but the popular YouTube channel Ten Second Songs brought this little experiment to life by popular demand. The talented Anthony Vincent channeled his inner Papa Emeritus and though it’s far from the heavy overload goodness S.O.A.D is known for, Papa… I mean Vincent’s vocals work their magick.

They’re All Out Of Love

Finnish love metallers H.I.M are finished after 26 years! I’ll allow the emo kid you stashed away deep inside you to come out and weep. “After quarter of a century of Love and Metal intertwined we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored.” Said frontman/ baritone wonder Ville Valo in the bands Facebook page. “We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you.”

At the end of the overall statement, the band will add U.S and Finnish dates to their finale but so far check out if you’ll be one of the first stops that will get to strike up that last razorblade romance. You can snag your tickets on March 8.

They’ll be giving everyone a final “Razorblade Kiss”

Avatar Explores A ‘New Land’

The eccentrically awesome quintet takes us on a new and exciting odyssey in their latest video! Always expect the unexpected from Avatar and though I was personally excited because this is one of my favorite tracks off their latest album (Feathers & Flesh, if you haven’t listened to it, you’re missing out buddy! You think I’m exaggerating?!), I loved this video more ‘cause SPACE! And crazy SPACE TENTACLES! Take a look!

Wintersun Captivates Again

These Finnish melodic death metal warriors seduced the eyes of many with their album artwork for their upcoming album The Forest Seasons. According to a statement from Wintersun via Nuclear Blast Records, these badass wizards will launch a crowdfunding campaign through Indiegogo on March 1st where you can secure THE (mystery) Forest package along with a copy of the record. I say mystery because they haven’t stated exactly what, but who doesn’t like surprises?! ONE MORE THING, the statement also sheds light on the highly anticipated Time II and say that front man Jari Mäenpää will also use the funds to build his own studio to make the album!… YES.

Who cares if Big Brother is watching, Havok sure doesn’t! Once you give in to the power of the instrumental thrashiness of “Ingsoc” you’ll even forget that nosy son of a bitch is there. Havok is just one of many bands that that not only shed light on these surreal times but are also creating wonderfully brutal tracks to head bang to regardless of what your political views are. Stay tuned for their March 10 manifesto titled Conformicide.

The quartet from New Jersey take us on a murder mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Though I’ve personally never taken a dip in Lorna Shore before, “Fvneral Moon” is a very enjoyable and heavy single which will be featured in their upcoming album Flesh Coffin out on Feb. 17 via Outerloop Records. If you’re still butt hurt about Suicide Silence’s clean vocals and have a need to forget about it, Lorna Shore’s got you covered.

THE EMPIRE WILL STRIKE THIS SUMMER…

No, not the Prez’s empire nor the new Star Wars saga, I’m talking about the REAL empire where Vader reigns supreme. The Polish death metal icons will kick off their invasion on North America starting May 26 in the Maryland Death Fest and because they don’t hate the idea of our beaches, our delicious craft beers and just flat out don’t hate us, they will be stopping by here in San Diego on June 7 at Brick By Brick! (This is NOT the only San Diego show headlined by metal legends this year…)

The supporting acts on this brootal tour are Internal Bleeding, Sacrificial Slaughter, Micawber and Voices of Ruin. If you’re old like us, those names might make your deteriorating body quiver with anticipated pain but as the motto goes, sticks and stones may break our frail bones but metal will never hurt us… be sure to check your local listings for Ugh Metal’s after party in the nearest ER and be part of the crusade!

These Gents Reign in ‘Kings Of Chaos’

House of Blues in Las Vegas hosted a three day event called Kings Of Chaos where they assembled a supergroup to performed covers of iconic songs in metal. The Dec.1-3 event had vocalists Corey Taylor and Chester Bennington team up with drummer Matt Sorum (ex-Guns N’ Roses), bassist Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), and guitarists Billy Duffy (The Cult) and Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) to add a new touch to classics such as “White Wedding” and “Ace Of Spades” among others. Queensryche Get REAL In New Video

Don’t expect a dude dressed like Satan or red chicks in sexy demon outfits this video, in fact don’t expect anything lighthearted! The legendary metal vets tackle the 2014 aviation tragedy of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in their latest video for “Hellfire.” Aside from focusing on this catastrophe, Queensryche show the overall civil and political turmoil plaguing the globe. But not all is bleakness ladies and gents! The video is worth a watch not just because of the chaotic storytelling but because the song is also awesome.

Sepultura Declare War With ‘I Am The Enemy’

These icons need no introduction and whatever your take is on this not-so-new lineup for this band, let me just say that this lyric vide for “I Am The Enemy” is fairly entertaining and the song is pretty revolutionary. Though the lyric video itself is filled with your typical images of the band along with pictures of protestors and chaos, the song makes up for it. The Hatchet Job of September 2 Edition

We Don’t Mind Letting “Brotherhood of the Snake” Slither In.

Excited about Testament’s new single? We sure are! After four long years after their previous album Dark Roots of Earth, these renowned thrashers finally unveiled to the world a glimpse of their forthcoming album Brotherhood of the Snake on September 2. Their 11th studio album is scheduled for an October 28 release through Nuclear Blast Records, piling on more reasons to look forward to October aside from Halloween/slutty costumes AND candy!

Vader’s Answers Prayer with New EP Lyric Video

We may be unfashionably late to this party, but it is our duty to express how wowed we are here at Ugh Metal by the lyric video from Polish death metal veterans Vader. The three minutes of brutality titled “Prayer to the God of War” was released on August 23 from their EP Iron Times, fueling the anticipation for their upcoming album ominously titled The Empire. Though the album doesn’t debut till November 4 via Nuclear Blast Records, “Prayer…” along with the EP, should satisfy those shakes and cravings till The Empire rises.

Get Hammered and Set Shit on Fire with Rammstein Tequila!

You read that headline right. Everyone’s favorite German pyros have unveiled a tequila of their own on September 2. The fancy little bottle of alcoholic wonder comes encased in a black leather cover with “Tequila” engraved on it with the band’s unmistakable font… just in case you were wondering what “mysterious” fluid the bottle contains. Fans can now drown their sorrows due to the seven year drought the sextet has imposed on them, make terrible decisions with a bit of a kick or just simply enjoy it. Either way, booze is booze so bottoms up! Or as the Germans say, PROST!

Let There Be MORE GWAR!!

GWAR with their  horny and uddered lead singer, Blothar, who is front and center and thirsty for battle!
The earth cracked open and Gor-Gor rejoiced after CEO and founder of Metal Blade Records, Brian Slagel, announced GWAR has reunited to record a new album on May 24 on his Instagram account.

“Yes, GWAR has united itself to record yet another disasterpiece and it has been secretly in the writing phase in a crack house of seclusion in the north side of Chicago.” Slagel wrote on his Instagram account regarding the forthcoming album.

“A due date for the record has not been decided but the band is grinding out what may prove to be their most savage and bloodthirsty tracks to date.”

The 14th studio album will be a follow up to the 2013’s Battle Maximus, which was not only one of their most brutal albums to date but was also the last one front man and mastermind, Dave Brockie, recorded before his untimely death in 2014.

Michael Bishop, who stepped in as the new vocalist and gave life to the horned and udder decked wonder named Blothar, will have the chance to reestablish and really make this notorious band his own.

Bishop along with his scumdogs, debuted Blothar in Chicago’s Riot Fest music festival in 2014 and toured stateside, not only promoting the new character but also celebrating their 30th anniversary. Though GWAR kept the degenerate and fluid soaked party going, they paid tribute to Brockie’s Oderus Orungus character by adapting a new story line in their mythos.

Bishop is no stranger to the band by the way, and certainly did not need to be taught the delightfully perverted ropes of GWAR. The former bassist was a member of the band since 1988 before going on a personal hiatus after 1999 as the Roman- armored humanoid, “Beefcake the Mighty.”

With Blothar fully taking the reins in the upcoming album, it will surely have bohabs thrashing in the slave pit with joy, eagerly waiting to witness the new era in Scumdogia and Earth. Another thing that can be confirmed here at NAMS, is that not only are we stoked but we are so ready to ruin our only white shirts with questionable fluids.
